Policies Governing the OzTiVo Mailing List
We've had a few complaints about off-topic and inappropriate postings on the
OzTiVo mailing list, so here are the policy guidelines for mail to the list. There are a few
non-serious policies thrown in just to keep you on your toes.
- Warren runs the list. His say is final. However, general list consensus will drive policies where possible.
- The list is primarily about configuring and using OzTiVos in Australia. If you are going to send in an article and it's not about this, then maybe this is the wrong forum for you.
- The odd off-topic article will be tolerated, but a long & on-going off-topic discussion is certainly not desirable. Eventually Warren will remind the list of its charter.
- Requests for a copy of a recording, or replies offering a recording, are not tolerated on the list. You may, if necessary, announce your woe and misery at missing a particular show.
- Announcement posts by someone who is organising a OzTiVo bulk purchase is fine, as long as the organiser asks for all followups to go directly to them.
- Queries about in-progress or up-coming OzTiVo bulk purchases are also fine, as long as the organisers of the bulk purchases contact the person querying directly. Rationale: the nitty gritty arranging of the bulk purchase is off-topic.
- We want as high a signal-to-noise ratio in the list. Try to avoid sending me-too e-mails etc. Remember, we have a Twiki where surveys and similar things can be hosted.
- If a subscriber doesn't like getting lots of individual oztivo e-mails, then they should elect to obtain a daily digest of the list.
- Warren isn't going to moderate the list. He's not going to censor articles. The community owns the list and its up to them to keep the house tidy and clean. However, Warren may occasionally send someone to bed early with no supper if they misbehave.
